The line received top marks for its recycling programme
Ponant has received Green Marine Europe certification for taking note of its environmental performance and seeking to reduce its eco-footprint.

The cruise line joined the Green Marine environmental certification programme last year, claiming to be the first international cruise company to do so.

Green Marine environmental certification programme

Green Marine Europe’s framework addresses several priority areas relating to the environment, with eight performance indicators within those. These assess, on a scale of one to five, the practices and technologies that have a direct impact on the environment.

Ponant achieved an average 4.5 out of 5 and level 5 (leadership and excellence) for six of the eight indicators. The line also received 5/5 for ‘ship recycling’ - a new category introduced this year.

The technologies that are measured

Underwater noise, pollutant air emissions (SOxa and PM,) greenhouse gas emissions (CO2,) invasive aquatic species and management of residues and oily discharges are among the practices and technologies that are measured.
