Ponant donating recyclable waste to support Argentina's hospitalsPonant donating recyclable waste to support Argentina's hospitals
The Ponant Foundation is donating recyclable waste to the Buenos Aires-based Garrahan Foundation, which by collecting and reselling aluminium cans and plastic bottle caps, is funding care homes in Argentina.

The accumulated waste is unloaded from Ponant’s ships on their return from Antarctica; the line anticipates that by supporting the Garrahan Foundation long-term, it can continue to facilitate better waste management in Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego.
Donated four cubic metres (m3) in 2020
In 2020, its first year supporting the organisation, Ponant donated four m3 of waste consisting of aluminium cans, paper and plastic bottle tops. The funds generated were subsequently used to purchase and repair equipment at the Garrahan Paediatric Hospital, train health teams and help fund care homes for sick children and their families.
Line hoping to set an example
Wassim Daoud, head of sustainability and CSR, Ponant said, ‘Given the situation in 2020, our first contribution is...symbolic. A key objective is to implement a procedure for sorting and reusing waste from cruise ships to Ushuaia, and encourage other companies to follow suit.’
