Seabourn embarks on its first Northwest Passage expedition

The 21-day journey is set to conclude in Nome, Alaska, on Sept. 17.

Among Seabourn Venture's destinations are Sisimiut, Greenland’s second largest city with its well-preserved historic church, and Ilulissat, which in Greenlandic means 'iceberg,' located at the terminus of the Jakobshavn Glacier, which calves spectacularly into the sea.

The ship will also call at Pond Inlet in Nunavut, Canada, where Inuit residents will guide passengers on a walk through town, and Croker Bay, Devon Island, a large uninhabited island in Baffin Bay off the coast of Nunavut.

Exploration by kayaks, Zodiacs and submarines

During nine days tracing the Northwest Passage — first navigated by the Norwegian polar explorer Roald Amundsen in 1903 -1906 — Seabourn Venture's expedition team will deploy the ship's kayaks, Zodiacs and submarines for naturalist-led experiences set on a flexible schedule that’s guided by ice and weather conditions.

Five days of the journey sail along Canada’s Northwest and Yukon territories via the Beaufort Sea, with the expedition team on the lookout for seabirds and marine mammals en route to the journey’s end in Nome

Seabourn Venture entered service in July 2022. Newly delivered sister ship Seabourn Pursuit began its inaugural season this month.
