Swan Hellenic’s SH Minerva floated out at Helsinki Shipyard
Swan Hellenic’s SH Minerva was floated out from Helsinki Shipyard on June 23, while SH Vega was floated into the dry dock.
Furthermore, steelwork production began in recent days for the line’s third and largest vessel being built at the yard, currently referred to by its project name: Vega 3.
‘We are delighted with the quality of Helsinki’s work, it’s wonderful to see our vision realised so well,’ said Swan Hellenic CEO Andrea Zito.
Esko Karvonen, CEO, Helsinki Shipyard responded, ‘SH Minerva is very much a next-generation expedition ship,’ citing the construction of the vessel’s ice-strengthened hull, created by a team 'with solid experience in building ice class vessels."
SH Minerva will be delivered to Swan Hellenic in October 2021. SH Vega and the temporarily named Vega 3 will be delivered in spring and autumn next year, respectively.
Design and features
SH Minerva has a 152-passenger capacity with 76 cabins and suites - most with large balconies - and will have an on board team of 120 people.
At 115 mtr, 10,500 gt, it features an expedition laboratory, marine life library and observation lounge for lectures by expedition leaders and specialists. From the ship, expedition day trips by zodiac will be offered, along with kayaking, trekking and other activities.
Facilities on board include a gym, spa, sauna, panoramic restaurant, club lounge and a pool deck with a bar.
Health and safety measures include air conditioning with HEPA filters and UV sanitisation systems.
Minimising its environmental impact
SH Minerva comprises a 5MW diesel-electric hybrid propulsion system with selective catalytic reduction and PC5 ice-strengthened hull that is fully Safe Return to Port certified.
SH Minerva, SH Vega and Vega 3 are built ‘battery-ready’ for future emission-free sailings in port and at wildlife and marine reserves.
