Aurora Expeditions’ second purpose-built ship, Sylvia Earle, was christened by Dr Earle with Antarctic ice.

‘I thank Sylvia for joining us onboard to officially christen the ship and be onboard for the inaugural Antarctic Climate Expedition,’ CEO Michael Heath said.

First climate expedition

As previously reported, Earle, a renowned marine biologist, oceanographer and explorer, is conducting a climate expedition in partnership with Aurora Expeditions and Ocean Geographic to raise public and government awareness of the environmental importance of the Antarctic.

‘Thank you, Aurora, for the approach that you use to keep people inspired about the ocean.’ Earle said.

‘Exploring the ocean and using knowledge to take care of all this on our planet is an experience I am happy to share with everyone here.

Voice of the ocean

‘I am looking at Aurora as the voice of the ocean.’

The 132-passenger ship has a dedicated science centre for educational citizen science programmes.
