Triton Submarines nailed a long-term agreement with Scenic to supply and manage submersibles aboard the Scenic Eclipse discovery yacht series.

Triton Submarines will supply a first-of-its kind Triton 660/9 AVA for the new Scenic Eclipse II. It will be able to carry up to eight passengers and a pilot for diving experience to depths as great as 200 meters/660 feet.

Scheduled to launch in first quarter 2023, Scenic Eclipse II is planned to navigate both polar and tropical regions.

'This new partnership means even more of our guests will be able to discover beneath the surface and we’re excited to have this first-of-its-kind Triton on board our latest discovery yacht, Scenic Eclipse II,' said Rob Voss, chief operations officer, Scenic Group.

Greater volume, enhanced comfort

According to Triton, the 660/9 AVA configuration provides many advantages. With a footprint comparable to that of previous-generation dual-hulled submersibles, it offers an interior volume almost three times greater. Its patent-protected elliptically shaped acrylic pressure hull optimizes the use of volume while dramatically enhancing comfort and viewing.

Interior can be reconfigured for varied activities

The Triton 660/9 AVA not only provides panoramic views for all occupants, but the versatile interior can be quickly reconfigured for a wide variety of premium activities including dining or cocktail dives, spa treatments, subsea gaming experiences and even weddings.

This means cruise lines and tour operators can now design bespoke adventures even when not operating near reefs and wrecks to help ensure use of the submersizle is maximized throughout the entirety of a voyage. In other words, no longer does use depend upon a spectacular dive site in order to provide a dynamic, revenue-generating experience.

'We are extremely proud to announce a partnership with such a venerable and highly respected brand as Scenic,' said Patrick Lahey, president and co-founder, Triton Submarines. 'We share not only a natural corporate culture to explore the Earth’s most exhilarating and inspiring locations, but a commitment to ensuring those experiences are safe and professionally executed. We look forward to a long and mutually beneficial collaboration with Scenic and to positively contributing to the extraordinary on-board experiences which have become synonymous with Scenic Eclipse cruises.'

'Elegant simplicity'

Triton CEO and co-founder L. Bruce Jones added: 'As an existing submersible operator, Scenic really focused on the detail of what they needed and expected in their next product. We presented the Triton 660/9 AVA, which not only addressed the challenges they had previously, but exceeded their expectations in terms of guest experience. The elegant simplicity of the Triton 660/9 AVA design ensures reliability by utilizing systems which have already been proven on numerous other models in the formidable Triton range.'

While Scenic represents the first Triton 660/9 AVA to be acquired within the cruise industry, two further units have been acquired by clients within the model’s other core target sectors, one for a private yacht and a third for a boutique resort.
