Oceanwide Expeditions released its 2021 Arctic itineraries for its fleet comprising Hondius (170 passengers), Ortelius, Plancius (both with 108 passengers), and schooners Rembrandt van Rijn (33 passengers), and Noorderlicht (20 passengers).

The polar expedition voyages focus on nature, wildlife, and activities in Spitsbergen, Northeast Greenland, and Northern Norway.

Among new sailings in 2021 are extended North/South Spitsbergen voyages of 9 nights iwith more time for wildlife observation and ice navigation; 7 night North Spitsbergen voyages offering free activities, such as kayaking, snowshoe/hiking and photo workshops.

365 Arctic sailings

According to Arctic program co-ordinator Florian Piper, ‘due to the great success of our  7 night Aurora Borealis voyages with Rembrandt van Rijn and Noorderlicht in North Norway, we will continue to offer departures in the winter months from November till April making us the only polar operator with a 365 days all year round expedition cruise program in the Arctic.’

Later in the season, Oceanwide’s vessels will operate in the Scoresbysund, which is a popular destination ideally suited for activity minded passengers and photographers. With three-masted  sailing vesel Rembrandt van Rijn we offer passenger exchange in Nerlerit Inaat (Constable Pynt) and flights to and from Keflavik, he added.

Croatia’s Brodosplit shipyard has started cutting steel for Oceanwide Expeditions’ new Polar Class 6 ship Janssonius. With 174-passenger capacity it is the same as Hondius, delivered in 2019.
