MSC Cruises Executive Chairman Pierfrancesco Vago said MSC Seashore will be ‘one of our most innovative all-around ships,’ with cutting-edge environmental technology. It will have a selective catalytic reduction system that reduces nitrogen oxide emissions by 90% and an exhaust gas cleaning system (scrubbers) to remove 98% of sulfur oxide emissions.
The ballast water treatment system will meet rigorous US Coast Guard standards, and the next-generation advanced wastewater treatment system will meet the tough Baltic standard.
The ship also will be equipped for shore power.
Lucky coins
Longtime employees Marianna Cicala, ground services planning manager, MSC Cruises, and Silvia Bozzetto, production planning & control commissioning for the Monfalcone yard, served as madrinas for the ceremony. Each welded a coin, for good luck, into the keel.
Fincantieri CEO Giuseppe Bono said MSC Seashore will be the largest ship built in Italy so far. It evolves the Seaside platform.
As earlier reported, the 169,500gt ship has double occupancy for 4,540 passengers and space for 5,877 passengers in total, compared to MSC Seaside and MSC Seaview's 153,500gt and total capacity for 5,119 passengers.
40% of the ship redesigned/enhanced
More than 40% of the ship has been redesigned and enhanced, according to MSC Cruises, representing a ‘significant evolution and improvement.’
Changes include the greater length (an additional 16 meters/52 feet), 200 more staterooms, a larger MSC Yacht Club and an added double-deck aft lounge. Among measures to improve passenger flow, a redesign created two central meeting points positioned at the middle and forward parts of the ship. An additional 1,000 square meters/107,639 square feet of deck space was created.
More suites
MSC Seashore will offer more suites thanks to the addition of 28 terraced suites, two suites with private whirlpools and the MSC Yacht Club’s two new categories: 41 deluxe grand suites and two owner’s suites with whirlpools.
New stateroom designs include modular connected rooms for families that link two or three adjoining staterooms and can sleep six to 10 people, plus bigger and more spacious accessible staterooms, 75 in total, for physically challenged travelers.
New restaurants
Two new restaurants will be introduced, including one exclusively for Aurea Spa guests. The five specialty restaurants will have a new location to allow for alfresco, waterfront seating on the ship’s boardwalk.
Besides the new double-deck show lounge aft, public room changes include a bigger casino and 20 specialty bars. The aft pool was redesigned, the indoor pool enlarged and the water park improved. Clubs for young children and teens are separated from the larger kids’ zone.
