FMC's Sola assures on Crystal refunds for cruises from US

'Customers who bought a voyage embarking from a US port have consumer protection safeguards in place by the FMC,' Louis Sola said
Crystal Cruises has sufficient funds to provide passenger refunds under US Federal Maritime Commission rules, Commissioner Louis Sola said.

'Customers who bought a voyage embarking from a US port have consumer protection safeguards in place by the FMC. Crystal Cruises has sufficient funds to provide refunds for qualifying individuals,' Sola offered in a statement in response to concerns about Crystal.

'While consumers might not be able to recover all costs associated with taking a cruise, such as airfare and hotel expenses, they can take comfort that they are protected from losing the money for their cruise ticket as the law requires,' Sola continued.

Applies only to cruises embarking from US

The FMC requires cruise lines embarking from a US port to have a bond or other financial surety available to refund passenger deposits in the event of nonperformance.

This applies only to cruises beginning from a US port, which not all Crystal voyages do.
