Il Viaggio means 'the voyage,' and the venue promises a journey across Italy through its rich and diverse regional cuisines. Each menu item, from antipasti (starters) to dolce (desserts), represents a different area.

'Guests will find their favorite Italian staples here, and they’ll also have the chance to try authentic dishes and drinks that might just become new favorites,' said Emeril Lagasse, Carnival Cruise Line's chief culinary officer.

Reservations are open for passengers booked on upcoming Carnival Venezia sailings. Il Viaggio will carry a fee in line with Carnival’s other full-service specialty restaurants.

Regional selections and signature dishes

Selections of appetizers, entrees, desserts, wines and cocktails represent regions of Italy where they are most known. The menu also features signature dishes. Among them is the Sicilian-inspired pollo parmigiana pizza, a crispy chicken pizza with tomato basil sauce, mozzarella, pepperoncini flakes, parmesan and a honey-chili dressing, and the Lombardy-influenced Lombata milanese, a 16-ounce bone-in veal chop that’s thinly pounded, lightly breaded, pan-fried and served with a green salad.

A few other examples of menu items include panzarotti (Campania), a golden brown and savory puff stuffed with sausage and pesto; pappardelle al Cinghiale (Tuscany), ribbon pasta tossed with pork ragu in a red wine marinade; and jumbo shrimp scampi (Venice), flavored by garlic, pepperoncino and Pinot Grigio and accompanied by lemon risotto.

Il Viaggio’s culinary team will be led full-time by an Italian executive chef.

Option to dine alfresco

The restaurant's artwork and architectural touches will highlight the regions featured on the menu, and passengers will have the option to dine alfresco on the restaurant’s lanai. Il Viaggo also features a show kitchen.

Carnival Venezia is the first ship to showcase 'Carnival Fun Italian Style.' It’s currently undergoing an enhancement at Navantia in Cádiz, Spain before embarking on a 15-day trans-Atlantic sailing May 29 from Barcelona.

The ship is scheduled to arrive at its new New York City home and begin operations from the Manhattan Cruise Terminal on June 15.
