Fred. Olsen introducing remote on board purchasing through IBS Software Tech
Passengers on board Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines’ vessels will be able to make food and beverage orders plus retail purchases from their cabins, using IBS Software Technology.
According to Fred. Olsen, traditional point of sale (PoS) systems lack centralised administration capabilities and require specific hardware to function, which means they have low portability.
‘We expect iTravel-PoS to improve the guest experience and drive efficiencies for Point of Sales operations across our fleet, as well as simplify our technology landscape,’ said Damon Impett, director of IT, Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines.
iTravel PoS
IBS’s iTravel Point-of-Sale (PoS) system will be introduced across the fleet, supplementing traditional over-the-counter purchases or waiter assisted orders.
Part of iTravel Suite - an integrated shore to ship family of products for cruise lines that includes iTravel-Cruise (Reservations), iTravel Dining (Table Reservations) and iTravel Navigator Guest Mobile App - the system will add to the cruise line’s pro-mobile approach, through which handheld devices can be used for processing transactions.
The technology will integrate with other on board systems, such as those for dining and property management.
iTravel-Super Highway
IBS’ iTravel-Super Highway will facilitate real-time synchronisation of data between shore and ship allowing ongoing tasks, such as restaurant and menu item set-up and management of business rules for each ship, to be centrally managed shoreside.
The sales from each vessel can also be consolidated and monitored in real-time and hosted via the cloud.
IBS Software VP and Head of Tour & Cruise Solutions Asish Koshy added, ‘IBS’ vision is to provide cruise lines with a seamlessly integrated shore-ship digital platform supporting reservations and onboard operations.
