The building is named in honour of Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong, the late founder of Genting Group.

'I am extremely proud to witness the completion of the Lim Goh Tong Building today as it has always been my father’s wish to contribute to our hometown and the community,' said Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay, chairman of Genting HK. He added the hope that this centre will support Xiamen University in 'cultivating the next generation of tourism professionals and talent to further contribute to the development of this industry sector in China and in the region.'

With a total area of 7,651 square meters, the Lim Goh Tong Building houses 82 demonstration hotel rooms offering students the opportunity to gain practical experience with hands-on training in a real-world setting. The design concept incorporates stylistic cues of 'Jiajing' architecture and combines Chinese and Western elements with a modern twist.

The opening event was also attended by Zhang Yan, secretary of Party Committee of Xiamen University, Yang Hui, secretary of Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Fujian Province, officials from Xiamen Tourism Bureau and professors and students.
