On the eve of Marella Cruises' official naming of Marella Explorer, Helen Caron has been appointed as the new hotel purchasing director for the TUI Group.

She will take up the role including her position on the group tourism board with immediate effect, reporting into David Burling, ceo TUI Northern Region.

Caron, who has been part of TUI UK & Ireland board, which she joined in September 2015 as md of Thomson Cruises and took on the additional responsibility of distribution in July 2016,
 
Caron, currently in Palma de Majorca to oversee the official naming of Marella Explorer on Thursday evening, has successfully led the modernisation of the company's cruise business, bringing Discovery, Discovery 2, and this week Marella Explorer, into service - and the rebrand from Thomson Cruises to Marella Cruises.

She has also overseen the rebrand from Thomson to TUI across all distribution channels including over 600 retail stores.

Caron is is now responsible for leading TUI Group’s commercial relationships with overseas third party hotel partners.

Burling said: 'Helen brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the role and has delivered excellent results since she joined and took responsibility of the TUI UK & I cruise and distribution channels in 2016.

She replaces Garry Wilson who after 21 years with TUI is heading to easyJet Holidays.

The appointment of a new cruise and distribution director for TUI UK & I board will be confirmed shortly.

In the interim, Chris Hackney, md of Marella Cuises reports to Andrew Flintham, md TUI UK & I.
