China ship Adora Magic City plans best of East and West, 5G broadband

Adora Cruises’ first Chinese-built ship will be called Adora Magic City, and could become 5G enabled.

The ship's name is revealed

The 135,500gt Adora Magic City is 323.6mtr in length and can accommodate up to 5,246 passengers. Under construction at Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding, it is scheduled to set sail at the end of 2023. 

The second Chinese-built large cruise ship for Adora Cruises is yet to be named, but has entered its design and construction phase.  

Plans for 5G network  

The operator is working with Shanghai Telecom for the vessel to become 5G-enabled, allowing passengers seamless communication with the option of mobile 5G and Wi-Fi 6 network packages.

Combining the best of East and West

Adora said the vessel will offer an immersive experience that blends Eastern and Western cultures, with Shanghai serving as its homeport for the inaugural season.

The ship takes inspiration from great metropolises, showcasing a combination of traditional and classic culture and modern and fashionable lifestyle.

Adora Magic City is also touted as having the largest duty-free retail space at sea owing to the line's its partnership with China Duty Free Group.

Theatre and comedy  

In addition, Adora teamed up with Mahua FunAge, a leading comedy production company in China, to deliver live comedy entertainment onboard. It has also collaborated with Selection International Entertainment, a globally recognised creative production house, to create a modern production for the vessel entitled, ‘Marco Polo: An Enchanted Love Tale.’ 

A main-stage production called ‘Magic City’ is themed on the charm of modern city life and Shanghai's diverse cutlure.
