Mediation between Carnival and Shine Lawyers proved unsuccessful and the class action on behalf of Ruby Princess passengers in March 2020 will proceed to trial in the Federal Court of Australia.

The trial is now set for October 10 and is estimated to run for four weeks.

Shine Lawyers filed the class action in July 2020 on behalf of passengers or their families and the estates of those who died over the handling of COVID-19 aboard Ruby Princess which sailed from Sydney on March 8, 2020.

It is alleged that the outbreak of COVID-19 on board the ship, which docked on March 19, resulted from a failure to take appropriate measures to ensure that passengers were safe and protected from contracting the virus.
