P&O Australia passengers’ donations help hospital repairs in Vanuatu

The P&O Pacific Partnership, funded by a one dollar donation from each P&O Cruises Australia booking, donated A$21,000 to the ‘Giving Hands Vanuatu’ campaign to help repair corridor roofing adjoining Vila Central Hospital’s maternity unit and children’s ward.

‘Giving Hands Vanuatu’ is the initiative of Carissa Jacobe, MD of Port Vila manning agency South Sea Services that recruits local staff for the P&O Australia fleet.

The donation from Pacific Partnership will go towards the cost of fixing leaks in the corridor roof that have contributed to flooding in the walkway.

P&O Cruises Australia President Sture Myrmell praised Jacobe for her community leadership in developing the fundraising effort.

Close to passengers’ hearts

‘Our ships cannot visit Vanuatu at the moment due to the COVID-19 situation, but the people of Vanuatu are always close to the hearts of our guests,’ Myrmell said.

‘I know that our guests would take the view that newborns deserve the best possible start in life and it is good to know that the corridor roof can be repaired for the benefit of the mothers and babies and their visitors,’ he said.
