Paul, who is highly regarded at Royal Caribbean, is leaving May 1 to take the ceo role with a UK-based, non-travel company. For the past two years, he has led RCL's international business, along with four years of growing the company's UK and Europe market.
Smith, most recently regional vp Asia Pacific, will become responsible for all sales, marketing and commercial operations for Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises and Azamara Club Cruises in Europe, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean and Australasia.
He will report to Michael Bayley, president and ceo of Royal Caribbean International.
Adam Armstrong, commercial director Australasia and Southeast Asia for RCL Cruises Australia and New Zealand, has been made md RCL Cruises Australia and New Zealand.
Armstrong will report to Smith and is responsible for the business operations of Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity and Azamara in the region.
Also reporting to Smith will be Ricardo Amaral, regional vp Latin America; Sean Treacy, md Singapore and Southeast Asia; and a to-be-named vp Europe, Middle East and Africa.
