Carnival Cruise Line, parent company Carnival Corp. and the Micky and Madeleine Arison Family Foundation have stepped up to help disaster relief and recovery efforts
Carnival Cruise Line, Carnival Corp. & plc and the Micky and Madeleine Arison Family Foundation are pledging at least $2m to relief and rebuilding efforts in the Gulf Coast following Hurricane Harvey.

The devastating storm was the first Category 4 hurricane to make landfall in the US since 2004.

Carnival Cruise Line and Carnival Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Carnival Corp., are each donating $500,000 to Harvey disaster relief efforts, for a total donation of $1m from the company. Carnival Corp. chairman Micky Arison and wife Madeleine are matching the corporation's commitment with a $1m donation from the Micky and Madeleine Arison Family Foundation.

To generate additional funding passengers sailing on certain Carnival Cruise Line voyages will have the option to make a donation when they check in for their cruise, while the corporation's brands and employees will be participating as well.

'Our hearts go out to all those who have been impacted by the devastation of Hurricane Harvey and its aftermath, and all of us throughout the Carnival Corporation family feel a responsibility to do our part in supporting relief and rebuilding efforts in a region that we call home and where so many of our guests and business partners live and work,' Carnival Cruise Line president Christine Duffy said.

'We know this storm is still active,' she added, 'so we will continue to hold positive thoughts for everyone in the region while exploring ways to support affected communities as they recover and rebuild.'

Carnival is working with emergency response authorities, community leaders and key relief and recovery organizations to identify the most urgent needs and immediate allocations for the donated funds.

The donation will help provide families with access to food, shelter, water, hygiene products, general necessities, medicines and healthcare supplies.
