The cruise industry is already coping with China's ban on travel to South Korea. As the trade war escalates between the US and China, could the cruise business be impacted?

No word on sanctions from either side

'In terms of sanctions, we haven't heard of anything on either side that would directly impact the cruise industry,' Arnold Donald, president and CEO of Carnival Corp. & plc, said Monday.

'The Chinese are still not going to Korea. if that changes, it could open up possibilities for itinerary planning and maybe help the situation there even more.

'But in terms of additional or new sanctions, I was in China last week and had the opportunity to participate in some high-level government stuff, and nothing was talked about,' Donald told analysts during Carnival's second quarter earnings call.

China cruise market stronger this year

He added that the China cruise market is stronger now than at this time last year, 'but China's China. We have to see how things play out for the full year.'
