For the second consecutive year, Carnival Corp. & plc was recognized by the Human Rights Campaign with a perfect score in its Corporate Equality Index.

The Index rates US companies on their treatment of LGBTQ consumers, investors and employees.

Additionally, it is the fifth time Carnival Corp. has been recognized in the CEI report, the national benchmarking tool on corporate policies and practices pertinent to LGBTQ employees.

Score reflects efforts to promote a positive work environment

'Being recognized by the largest LGBTQ civil rights organization in the US underscores our ongoing commitment to equality, inclusion and diversity,' said Jerry Montgomery, chief human resources officer for Carnival Corp.

'This perfect score reflects our efforts to promote a positive work environment for our more than 120,000 employees from over 100 countries that work with great passion to provide extraordinary vacation experiences for our guests,' Montgomery continued.

He said Carnival Corp. actively supports equality, diversity and inclusion as a core value but also promotes a productive environment for innovation and leadership that helps provide a competitive advantage in the marketplace.

The company has also shown support by offering welcoming environments with LGBTQ cruises, on-board activities and special events, including Holland America Line hosting the 2017 Annual Seattle Men's and Women's Chorus Gala Dinner and participating in the Florida Businesses for a Competitive Workforce coalition to end LGBTQ discrimination in the state's businesses.

Further, through Holland America, the company has served as a supporting member of the National LGBTQ Task Force and the San Diego LGBT Community Center.

Other efforts include participation and sponsorship of annual Pride events to raise awareness and funds for LGBTQ organizations, including the Seattle Pride Parade and Southampton Pride, and partnering with equal opportunity champions such as the Human Rights Campaign, Executive Leadership Council, Hispanic Association on Corporate Responsibility, Catalyst, Leadership Education for Asian Pacifics and CEO Action for Diversity and Inclusion.

Backing to reverse Bermuda's same-sex marriage ban

Recently Carnival Corp. came out in active support of a legal challenge to Bermuda's reversal of a law that allowed same-sex marriages.

Princess Cruises, Cunard and P&O Cruises are among the Carnival brands with ships registered in Bermuda, where a May 2017 ruling by the Supreme Court condoned and recognized same-sex marriages, which enabled the ships flagged there to legally perform these ceremonies at sea. However, in February, a new Bermuda law reversed the legality of same-sex marriages.
