'The fate of the refugees concerns all of us,' said Costa Group ceo Michael Thamm. 'Hundreds of thousands of people who have left everything behind them need all the support we can give them. For us it is a question of humanity to provide help now, fast, and without red tape.'
President Neil Palomba said Costa Cruises will support Medecins Sans Frontieres with a €100,000 donation to help the refugees in what he called an 'extremely sad situation.'
Since 2002, Medecins Sans Frontieres has assisted refugees and migrants, both on arrival and in the first aid and reception center in Pozzallo, in close collaboration with Italy's Ministry of Health.
The organization also provides psychological and medical support in the ports and in the reception centers of Ragusa province. In May Medecins Sans Frontieres activated sea rescue operations in the Mediterranean with three dedicated ships.
AIDA Cruises is donating €100,000 to Aktion Deutschland Hilft. Founded in 2001, this alliance of 24 noted German aid organizations helps people who have lost everything in major disasters.
