CroisiEurope inaugurates Amália Rodrigues for Douro fleet

Amailia Rodrigues
Amália Rodrigues now sailing on the Douro
Amália Rodrigues departed Porto for an inaugural cruise on the Douro on March 20 after a naming ceremony the day before. This is the sixth ship to join CroisiEurope’s Douro fleet.

Maria Alexandrina Quaresma, representing the Amália Rodrigues Foundation, served as the godmother. Known as the ‘Queen of Fado’, Rodrigues was a cultural ambassador of Portugal.

The ship’s godfather is Marco Martins, mayor of Gondomar.

Other important members of CroisiEurope's owners, the Schmitter family, and notable Portuguese and French personalities joined in with the celebrations on the Quebrantoes quay in Vila Nova de Gaia.

Contemporary Med vibe

Built at the Meuse and Sambre shipyard in Namur and finished with a cool contemporary Mediterranean vibe, the three-deck vessel measures 262.5ft in length and 37.4ft in width, with a 132-passenger capacity.

Six- and eight-day itineraries pass through the Douro Valley wine region, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, en route from Porto to Regua, Pinhao, Teron Vega, Barca d’Alva, Salamanca and Ferradosa.
