dnata acquires stake in Destination Asia

dnata announced it has reached an agreement to purchase a stake in the destination management company, Destination Asia Group which is located in 11 countries across the region.

The acquisition marks dnata’s first foray into Asia’s inbound travel market. dnata claims to be the largest provider of travel services and products in the Middle East, and operates more than 200 retail outlets worldwide. Its travel advisors handle more than 3.5m bookings, 7m bed nights, and 7m passengers annually.
Destination Asia is active in Thailand, Vietnam, China, Japan, Myanmar, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Cambodia and Laos. The company was formed in October 1996 in Thailand and Vietnam and has progressively expanded to cover all of the major markets in Asia.

Cruise Asia@Destination Asia, the company’s cruise brand provides shorex, turnaround services and intinerary consulting operating at more than 100 ports from Japan to Indonesia and Hong Kong to Burma.
Destination Asia will become part of dnata’s family of travel businesses, which includes Stella Travel Services, Gold Medal Travel Group, Travel Republic, and additional investments in Hogg Robinson Group. The stake in Destination Asia follows other recent high-profile transactions by dnata in travel, including a majority stake in Imagine Cruising in 2015.
