Emerald Princess is making her maiden season in Sydney
Emerald Princess, which left Sydney on February 1 for a 12-night round voyage to New Zealand, will return as scheduled on February 13 following a gas bottle explosion that killed a crew member while docked in Dunedin.

The 113,000gt Princess Cruises ship was due to cruise to Fiordland, but was detained in Dunedin after the accident on February 9 while an investigation was carried out by police, Worksafe New Zealand and Maritime NZ.

David Jones, corporate communications manager for Carnival Australia, was quoted as saying first reports ‘indicate that the incident happened during technical work on the hydraulic launching system on a tender vessel.’

Jones said the company is ‘deeply saddened that a member of Emerald Princess’ crew was fatally injured in the incident.’

Emerald Princess is making her maiden 2016/17 extended season in Sydney.
