Development partnership
Fred. Olsen worked with Ipswich-based agency, SimpleClick. Ben Williams, head of marketing for the cruise line explained: ‘One of the main challenges was developing an app that moves across time zones and can be used with minimal internet connectivity, which is essential to ensure that we are able to enhance our guests’ cruise experience.’
Information on the new app will be displayed on digital screens across the ships to encourage guests to engage with the new technology.
Passengers who download the app before they embark will not need to purchase Wi-Fi on board the ships to make use of it. Once they have installed the app on their mobile device or tablet, they can connect to the ship's network without purchasing on-board Wi-Fi, , which will allow the app’s function to work and will address any connectivity issues. However, some features do require Wi-Fi, or internet access.
