Grand Celebration undergoes €4.5m refurbishment

Costa Crociere
Work includes hull and engine maintenance and refresh of hotel areas
Iberocruceros' Grand Celebration is getting a €4.5m in maintenance work at Genoa's San Giorgio del Porto shipyard. The 47,268gt vessel's docking began April 29 and is scheduled through May 17.

The servicing involves the hull, engine and hotel areas. Key jobs include cleaning and repainting the hull, and the replacement of carpets, curtains, upholstery, furniture, decorations and other items and materials subject to wear and tear in the public areas and cabins.

Iberocruceros' parent, Costa Crociere, said the work involves about 400 people, mainly from the contracted suppliers commissioned both locally and beyond.

After the drydock, Grand Celebration is scheduled to sail from Valencia May 18 on a positioning cruise to Venice. During summer the ship will be deployed in the Eastern Mediterranean on seven-day cruises from Venice and Istanbul.

Grand Celebration is to transfer to the Costa fleet next year and will sail as Costa Celebration from Venice, starting in April.
