Ultimate cruise ship for golfers
'This underscores our commitment to embed sports and wellness into every aspect of the cruise experience for our passengers,' said Gene Meehan, Blue World founder and chairman. 'When we set sail in 2019, we intend to become the ultimate cruise ship for golfers.'
Blue World's golf programs will be designed by one of the legendary figures for the sport: Hank Haney, added Meehan, an 8 handicap player.
'Partnering with Blue World to create the ultimate on-board golf playground is one of the most exciting opportunities of my career,' Haney said. Two special golf sailings are planned each year in some of the best golf regions in the world including Ireland, England and Scotland, or Spain and Portugal.
Haney has instructed more than 200 PGA tournament professionals. He currently hosts Haney’s Golf Radio on SiriusXM and 'The Haney Project' on the Golf Channel.
Three rounds during each seven-night cruise
Blue World Voyages expects to have at least 20 to 30 golfers aboard each sailing, plus others looking to take up the sport. On a typical seven-night cruise the line intends to schedule three rounds of golf at different ports. These will be organized by an on-board Hank Haney teaching pro. All three rounds will be designed as tournament play, with prizes offered at a private cocktail party on the final day.
In some ports, Blue World Voyages plans to challenge members of local European country clubs for friendly tournaments. Following the game, competitors will be invited back to the ship for lunch.
Lessons, simulators, putting green, pro shop
On board, Blue World plans one of the largest golf training facilities at sea complete with two simulators, an indoor nine-hole putting green and Haney Pro Shop. Private and group lessons will be available, as well as a golf strength training course led by the ship’s exercise physiologist.
Blue World Voyages plans to launch with a 350-passenger ship that has one entire level outfitted as a Sports Deck with high-definition golf and soccer simulators, batting cages, a functional training center, yoga, spinning and TRX studios, and more.
What the line touts as the largest spa deck at sea will have amenities that include a relaxing therapy tub, spa pool, indoor and outdoor treatment rooms and solarium. Twelve private Bali beds provide the option to sleep under the stars and wake up to a butler-served breakfast.
Founders Club
The company's Founders Club consists of a group of investors/early adopters to help bring Blue World Voyages' vision to life. Meehan said they'll be consulted on everything from cabin layout, menus and equipment choices to itinerary planning and guest lecturers.
'We ask for input from our Founders Club members both before and after their cruise in designing the perfect vacation experience—including where they most want to play a round of golf,' he added.
