The Holland America Line Academy training program for travel agents reached a milestone when the 20,000th professional graduated.

Robin Dworkin, owner of GAP Travel in Levittown, New York, was the 20,000th graduate and received a bag overflowing with Holland America Line swag to commemorate the occasion.

Interactive, online experience

The Academy, which marked its 15th anniversary in 2017, helps bolster knowledge about travel sales, the cruise industry and HAL. It consists of video instruction, reading and interactive quizzes.

The program began as a workbook sent to agents in the United States and Canada and later transitioned into an interactive online experience. Training sites for agents in the UK, Australia and the Netherlands are also available now.

Eva Jenner, VP sales for Holland America Line, congratulated Dworkin, adding that the Academy has grown into a 'comprehensive, engaging and award-winning tool that is essential in setting our agents up for success.'

Dworkin called the Academy 'very informative' and an 'extremely effective way to virtually experience Holland America Line and become an even more proficient product ambassador.'

Core training, specialist courses and rewards

The Academy's 2017 relaunch set up four core training sessions: 'The Holland America Line Difference,' 'Destinations and Itinerary Planning,' 'Selling Groups' and 'Secrets of Sales Success.'

Specialist training courses are available, too. The courses were developed in collaboration with industry training expert Marc Mancini. Agents can achieve three levels of distinction (Silver, Gold and Platinum) and earn rewards at each level.
