Because of Iceland’s geography, the best way to see the country is by cruise ship, according to Gudmundur Kjartansson, managing director and owner of Iceland ProTravel. Ocean Diamond is well suited for 'the intimate ports, sightseeing of nature and scenery and an extraordinary set of shore experiences,' Kjartansson added.
Iceland ProCruises will initially offer six departures of a 10-day and one departure of an 11-day Iceland circumnavigation from June to August. An 11-day 'On the Trail of the Vikings' sails Aug. 6, cruising to both Iceland and the southern tip of Greenland. The 12-day 'Iceland and Natural Wonders of Greenland' cruise follows in late August.
FleetPro will provide technical and hotel operations management for the inaugural season of Ocean Diamond sailings for Iceland ProCruises, with services beginning May 4. Hans Rood, evp of FleetPro, said Ocean Diamond will provide an attractive way for passengers to visit the Arctic.
Built in 1974 as Explorer, Ocean Diamond also sailed as Song of Flower and Le Diamant. It was extensively refurbished in 2004.
