IMO said this year's campaign aims to show how the multifaceted maritime world offers 'rich and fulfilling career opportunities for young people, both at sea and ashore.'
The organization will be showing what a career at sea could look like by engaging seafarers to tell about their lives, share photos and be ambassadors for their own industry.
Day of the Seafarer will share more about IMO Maritime Ambassador, a new scheme
to promote the maritime and seafaring professions and raise awareness of the positive benefits of choosing a career at sea or other maritime profession.
IMO also hopes to use June 25 to raise awareness of seafarers and their importance to the global economy with the general public.
Seafarers are encouraged to tweet using hashtag #CareerAtSea and to post on IMO's photo wall, titled 'A career at sea looks like ...' (at a web address to be available in mid-June).
