The 300-passenger Flying Clipper will be the most ambitious vessel built by Star Clippers, and construction is underway in the Brodosplit shipyard in Split, Croatia.
Mikael Krafft, founder and ceo of the family owned niche sailing line, said, 'There will be some delay in construction. It is well worth giving the extra time and I believe the resulting quality of build will be excellent when Flying Clipper is delivered in 2018.'
Flying Clipper is modelled on France II, a legendary sailing ship that, when launched in 1912, was the world's biggest. The vessel will have 150 cabins, including 34 balcony cabins and four owner’s suites, a two deck main restaurant, a watersports platform at the stern, an 18ft dive pool spanning two decks and two other deck-top pools.
The delayed delivery of the fourth vessel in Star Clippers' fleet means the number of ships due for handover this year is 10, ranging from 40,700gt Silver Muse to 167,600gt MSC Meraviglia, both under construction in Fincantieri yards which are building five of the 2017 newbuilds.
