Maasdam delayed by technical issue

Maasdam delayed by technical issue
Holland America Line's Maasdam was delayed by a technical issue shortly after departing Boston on Saturday and had to miss Sunday's call at Bar Harbor, Maine.

The ship was anchored overnight in Boston Harbor while the issue was identified and to obtain the subsequent approvals required for sailing from the US Coast Guard and classification society Lloyd’s Register.

HAL did not specify the nature of the problem, referring only to 'technical challenges with the engineering plant.' The line said hotel services on board are operational 'and the ship is completely safe.'

Maasdam departed at approximately 3:45 p.m. Sunday. The ship was due to arrive in Halifax Monday, as planned, but with the call adjusted to 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. On Tuesday Maasdam is to arrive one hour late at Sydney, Nova Scotia. The rest of the itinerary, which includes a stop at Charlottetown, PEI, is unchanged.

The ship is on a seven-night Canada/New England cruise to Montréal.
