Major infrastructure expansion planned for Le Havre

Le Havre's waterfront is undergoing a total renovation, linking the beach promenade to the port
Port of Le Havre in Normandy is planning major development improvement to its infrastructure this year.

Extension of Terminal 12 (quai P. Callet) will increase from 600sq mtr to 2,400sq mtr. Metal detecting archways for onshore control of hand luggage will be added to the terminal (6 lines) as well as quai R. Meunier Terminal (4 lines). A new pedestrian walkway (Voie Verte) will run to the town centre.

The port waterfront is undergoing a total renovation, linking the beach promenade to the port area.  Water facilities and shore-power will be set-up on the river cruise quai de Marseille.

Rise in cruise and river passenger traffic

Le Havre is expecting 135 calls from ocean cruise ships this year carrying 350,000+ passengers, and 128 calls from river cruise ships carrying 16 000+ passengers.

Thirty-one turnarounds (mostly partial), including a Queen Mary 2 trans-Atlantic crossing, are planned in 2019.

The document Embarquez au Havre covers all the cruise calls to the port, and a one person point of contact for river cruise ships has been assigned. A new river cruise destination manual is also available.

The creation of Le Havre Seine Métropole expands the local territorial reach to Etretat, creating a new range of excursions.

New itineraries include a tree-climbing course in Le Havre, Etretat Gardens overlooking the Channel Sea, Fécamp Fisheries Museum, amongst others.

Summer event program

Following Le Havre’s 500the anniversary, the municipality will again be hosting its summer event program, Un Eté au Havre. The Raoul Dufy in Le Havre exhibition will run May 18 – November 3.

Le Havre will host seven games at the FIFA Women’s World Cup, June 8 – 28.
