Mardi Gras festivities send off American Cruise Lines' riverboats

Queen of the Mississippi
Queen of the Mississippi will be departing New Orleans during Fat Tuesday's parades
On Fat Tuesday (March 5) with Mardi Gras in full swing, Queen of the Mississippi, American Cruise Lines' 150-passenger paddlewheeler, will depart New Orleans amid the city's annual festivities.

Mardi Gras-themed pre-cruise night

Passengers will be treated to a complimentary Mardi Gras-themed pre-cruise night on board before the boat heads upriver on an eight-day Lower Mississippi itinerary, concluding in Memphis.

The night before departure, festivities aboard Queen of the Mississippi will feature the musical entertainment of Wendell Brunious & the New Orleans All-Stars for dancing and merriment. A Mardi Gras cocktail party will be hosted on board, including parlor games, Venetian masks and dress-up flare. A sumptuous Big Easy-inspired dinner will follow with New Orleans king cakes for dessert.

All of American Cruise Lines' late February and early March Mississippi cruises have provided this special Mardi Gras evening on board, and the cruise departing March 5 during Fat Tuesday’s parades is sure to be the most memorable of all.

More Mardi Gras-themed pre-cruise events are planned in 2020.

Coming soon: American Harmony

The line kicks off the 2019 Mississippi season with sold-out spring cruises on two of its vessels, America and Queen of the Mississippi. Summer sees the introduction of the new, modern-style riverboat, American Harmony. Throughout the year, American will operate nine different Mississippi River itineraries, concluding the season with its popular December Christmas and New Year’s cruises.

By April, American Cruise Lines will have its full 10-ship fleet of paddlewheelers, small cruise ships and modern riverboats sailing well beyond the Mississippi as they travel the country’s largest western rivers and both scenic coastlines.
