A ceremony was held on Saturday to celebrate the launch of Marella Cruises’ inaugural adults-only ship, Marella Explorer 2, in Málaga, Spain.

The christening comes as Marella Explorer 2 sets sail on her maiden voyage on April 2, visiting Mediterranean ports including Sicily, Sorrento and Corsica.

This follows the launch of Marella Explorer in May last year, the first ship to launch under the brand’s new name.

Three new venues include a new clubhouse bar, the 19th hole sporting two golf simulators; Flutes, a sophisticated bubbles bar; The Beach Cove with an on the beach al fresco dining feel and a new pizzeria style restaurant Nonna’s, cooking up made-to-order Italian pizzas.

The X Factor

X Factor winning group Rak-Su gave guests a surprise performance.

From May, Marella Explorer 2, the former SkySea Golden Era, will sail from a new homeport of Naples with city stops including Venice, Rome and Dubrovnik.

Marella Explorer 2 will spend her first full winter season in Bridgetown, Barbados calling at St Lucia, Aruba and the Grenadines.

Managing Director of Marella Cruises, Chris Hackney, said: ‘It seemed like the natural progression to offer our customers a ship exclusively for adults.

'Marella Explorer 2 marks the next step in the continued modernisation and growth of the Marella Cruises fleet.’
