MSC Meraviglia on Saturday made its maiden call to Flynn Cruiseport Boston as the largest cruise ship to ever visit Massport.

‘Offering our guests the opportunity to call Boston — one of the oldest cities in America — for the first time since 2011 is an exciting milestone for MSC Cruises as we continue expanding our presence in North America,’ said Ken Muskat, EVP and COO of MSC Cruises USA.

More varied itineraries

‘We look forward to continuing to work with Massport and Flynn Cruiseport Boston as we now have the ability to offer more varied itineraries with four distinct ships sailing from the US — MSC Meraviglia, MSC Seaside, MSC Armonia and MSC Divina.’

Massport CEO Lisa Wieland said MSC Meraviglia’s visit was a ‘significant compliment to the city and the Commonwealth about what we have to offer.’

October 2020 return

MSC Meraviglia will return to Boston in October 2020, as part of a 10-night sailing departing from New York City and calling at destinations in Canada/New England.

The ship has been making maiden calls and setting size records at port in New England and Canada since its stateside arrival on Oct. 7.

During its Caribbean cruise, set to embark from New York today, MSC Meraviglia on Nov. 9 will become the first ship to call at Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, MSC Cruises’ new private island destination in the Bahamas.
