Norwegian Bliss and Norwegian Sky last year. 'Cruise Freedom' will include wearables
Norwegian Cruise Line will be rolling out its new guest-facing 'Cruise Freedom' technology with the debut of Norwegian Encore later this year.

The innovative program will include wearables, the company said during today's fourth quarter earnings call.

Partnering with DeCurtis Corp.

As earlier reported, Norwegian is working with DeCurtis Corp. to develop a technology platform that 'meaningfully enhances the guest experience from the moment of booking throughout their Norwegian cruise.' A Cruise Norwegian mobile app was in use on Norwegian Bliss and Norwegian Sky as of last year.

On Thursday, Mark Kempa, EVP and CFO, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, said it's too early to talk about the cost of this investment. After the Encore debut, some voice features or artificial intelligence elements may be incorporated.

Playing catch-up

'We're playing catch-up,' he said.

Carnival Corp. & plc aims to have its all-encompassing OceanMedallion implemented on five Princess Cruises ships by year's end. MSC Cruises' MSC for Me is adding to its arsenal the voice-activated personal assistant Zoe with MSC Bellissima's debut in March. And Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.'s Excalibur was implemented on over half the fleet at the end of 2018.
