Carnival Cruise Line is debuting an entertaining and creative new safety briefing video that stars its Chief Fun Officer Shaquille O’Neal.

Produced with the goals of getting and keeping passengers’ attention and improving the knowledge of safety policies, ‘Safety is Serious Fun’ is being shown in all 34,000-plus staterooms throughout the fleet and is captioned in English and Spanish, as well as in English with audio descriptions for visually impaired travelers.

Crew members deliver the messages

Shaq appears in his nautical-themed ‘CFO office’ and guides passengers through the safety messages delivered by three Carnival crew members as they tour the ship and experience the dining, entertainment and recreation features available to the 5.2m travelers who sail with the line each year.

Shaq is joined by entertainment team members Estevan Velasco-Romero of Clovis, New Mexico; Katelyn Stillman of Kilmarnock, Virginia; and AJ Tabaldo of Santa Barbara, California, who encounter colleagues — and even a few towel animals — along the way, all working together to ensure passengers understand and follow safety policies.

Comprehensive 13-minute briefing

The 13-minute briefing is extremely comprehensive and includes information about everything from smoking regulations (including that marijuana is a no-no) to waterslide and deck chair safety, in addition to fundamentals like the emergency alarm and how to don a lifejacket.
