The new itinerary comes in response to Venice’s restriction on larger cruise ships from entering its historic centre, and the knock-on effect to local areas.
In the first half of 2019, 272 cruise ships dropped anchor around Croatia, with over 85% of these docking at either Dubrovnik or Split.
Off the beaten track
The ship will embark from north Croatia’s Opatija, known as the gateway to the country’s Istria food and wine region and calls at little know Croatian islands and the Istrian Peninsula as an alternative to busy Split and Dubrovnik.
The ship will sail to Losinj Island in the Adriatic Sea, with stops at the fishing village of Mali Losinj, and Cres, rich with olive trees and vineyards.
Guided walking tours of the city of Zadar can be booked, with Local highlights including The Sea Organ, a system of underwater pipes and whistles that are activated by sea movement within its stone stairs.
