Norwegian Bliss arrived at the Port of Los Angeles at 2 a.m. Friday
Norwegian Bliss on Friday became the largest cruise ship ever to call at the Port of Los Angeles.

The 168,000gt vessel arrived following its record-setting journey through the expanded locks of the Panama Canal.

Too large to use the main turning basin

The ship is too large to use the main turning basin, so it backed down the main channel in reverse before docking at the World Cruise Center.

Norwegian Bliss was scheduled to sail at 7 p.m. Friday on a two-night inaugural jaunt, returning Sunday before heading to the Port of Seattle for its naming on May 30.

Seven calls booked in 2018

Norwegian Cruise Line's newest ship will be calling at Los Angeles a total of seven times this year, according to Chris Chase, the port's cruise marketing manager.
