Following its Alaska season, Norwegian Jewel will sail from Houston starting on Nov. 11.
The 24-hour O’Sheehan’s, introduced on Norwegian Epic and also available on Norwegian Breakaway and Norwegian Getaway, is being expanded across the fleet.
In addition, Norwegian Jewel's Moderno Churrascaria, the Brazilian-style steak house, was relocated to a more intimate setting on Deck 13 and the Sugarcane Mojito Bar, first introduced on Norwegian Getaway, was added adjacent to the new restaurant.
The Java Café gained a Carlo’s Bake Shop by Buddy Valastro, star of TLC’s 'Cake Boss' and 'Next Great Baker.'
Further enhancements updated the Casino and Photo Gallery, and brought new carpets and flooring throughout passenger areas. Windows were replaced, and galleys and pool deck areas were updated.
Norwegian’s digital signage, first introduced on Norwegian Breakaway, will be added to the ship over the summer. These interactive touch-screen signs allow passengers to order specialty items, get directions and reserve dining and shore excursions by scanning their stateroom keycard.
Technical work during the docking included the addition of Green Tech Marine scrubbers, an Azipod hydrodynamic upgrade and the latest silicone hull coating. Norwegian Jewel was also retrofitted for shore power connectivity.
Additional significant technical and safety updates include upgraded lifeboat and tender boat release systems, thrusters and stabilizer maintenance and ballast and bilge piping replacement.
On Saturday Norwegian Jewel begins weekly Alaska cruises from Seattle through Sept. 13. Cruising from Houston returns for Norwegian following a seven-year gap on Oct. 11. The itinerary includes Cozumel, Belize City and the new port of Banana Coast in Honduras.
