If there is insufficient wind generated then PTA will switch to a supply of organic (bio) fraction from Afval Energiebedrijf Amsterdam (AEB).
The power is being supplied by Senfal Port Services, an initiative of the Port of Amsterdam and Senfal.
The aim is to supply locally produced green electricity for use by companies located in the port. The heating/cooling systems of the PTA building have been run using thermal energy since it was built.
Sustainable local energy
‘By coordinating supply and demand for sustainable energy locally, we will ensure a lower energy bill and make the port more environmentally friendly,’ reported Dick de Graaff, director at PTA.
This energy supply fits perfectly in PTA and the port’s ambition to be the leader in the field of green energy, he noted.
As of 2022, clean cruise ships will be rewarded by incentives port dues, he confirmed.
Green shore power for river ships
Port of Amsterdam, together with Eneco, own the Ruigoord windfarm. Working with partner AEB, they also provide shore power connections for river cruise vessels calling in Amsterdam.
