This new Wildlife Discovery Series gives passengers the chance to learn from some of the world's most fascinating scientists, oceanographers and conservationists.
Katherine Holmes, associate director, WCS Global Marine Programs, will join the Feb. 18 'Tahiti & the Society Islands' cruise. With extensive experience in Melanesia and the South Pacific, Holmes previously served as the WCS marine director in Papua New Guinea. She is knowledgeable about marine area management, coral reef ecology and sea turtle biology.
Emily Darling, associate scientist, WCS Global Marine Programs, will sail on the June 7 Bali to Fiji voyage. Dr. Darling helps to save wildlife and wild places, and inspires people to value nature in oceans and seascapes worldwide. She is a dedicated coral reef ecologist, passionate about sustaining tropical corals in a changing climate.
Joining the same cruise will be Sangeeta Mangabhai, director, WCS Fiji. Based in Suva, Dr. Mangabhai has empowered local communities to make informed decisions about their natural resources. She specializes in designing marine protected areas, assessing coral reef resilience, monitoring fisheries and evaluating the return on investment of conservation action.
Other lecturers include Dr. Tim McClanahan, senior zoologist, WCS Kenya, and Dr. Nyawira Muthiga, marine director, WCS Kenya, aboard the Aug. 12 'Tahiti & the Society Islands' cruise. Dr. Alexander Tewfik, conservation scientist, WCS Belize, will join the Oct. 7 'Cook Islands & Society Islands' sailing, while Dr. Stacy Jupiter, director, WCS Melanesia, is booked for the Nov. 11 'Tahiti & the Society Islands' itinerary. Dr. Martin Robards, director, WCS Arctic Beringia, be aboard for the Dec. 23 'Tahiti & the Society Islands' voyage.
