Paul Gauguin pairs Europe cruises with food and wine tours

Paul Gauguin Cruises is offering a variety of shore excursions for food and wine connoisseurs in connection with this summer's seven-night Europe voyages.

Tere Moana is sailing Nice to Rome, Athens to Venice, Venice to Rome, Lisbon to Barcelona and Barcelona to Nice. Winery tours, wine tastings, a local market tour and multi-course dining with wine pairings are some of the optional excursions.

At Elba, Italy, for example, tour participants can sample wine and olive oils at La Chiusa Winery, a historic wine estate visited by Napoleon Bonaparte, before exploring the seaside town of Porto Azzurro.

At Hvar, passengers can sample wines from two of Croatia’s most distinguished winemakers, taste olive oil and partake in a gourmet picnic lunch.

The wine cellars of Macià Batle, where ancient and contemporary winemaking traditions intersect, are featured on a tour in Spain's Palma de Mallorca. Participants can tour the winery and taste wines and tapas.

In Italy, Paul Gauguin offers an olive oil tasting and lunch at Portofino's exclusive Splendido Hotel, while in Port Venere, passengers can learn about winemaking in the Cinque Terre region and visit an estate atop Groppo hill for a guided tour of the wine cellar and vineyards before a tasting.

A number of choices in France are offered. For example, from Sète, tour participants can experience the scenic beauty and flavors of Montpellier, the walled city of Aigues-Mortes and the Languedoc winemaking region. They will have lunch at La Compagnie des Comptoirs restaurant before a wine tasting at a boutique winery near Sète.

Rates for culinary and wine excursions range from $109 to $489 per person, and they can be booked 90 days prior to sailing by calling Paul Gauguin Cruises.

The line will also arrange private tours and customized shoreside services.
