Today’s voyage — a sold-out five-day cruise to Ocho Rios and Grand Cayman — marks the first of nearly 40 departures through May 2.
Carnival Sunrise’s inaugural call at Port Everglades was marked with a traditional maritime plaque exchange with port and government officials, and a reception and lunch for local dignitaries and travel agents.
$200m transformation
Carnival Sunrise (the former Carnival Triumph) debuted earlier this year following an extensive $200m transformation that is part of a fleetwide $2bn ship enhancement program at Carnival Cruise Line.
‘We are pleased to bring Carnival Sunrise to Port Everglades, providing our guests with more options in sailing from South Florida,’ Carnival President Christine Duffy said. ‘Since debuting earlier this year, the ship has received rave reviews from our guests for the exciting enhancements and the amazing service that our crew always deliver.’
Four-day ‘long weekend’ cruises will call at ports including Half Moon Cay, Princess Cays, Grand Turk and Nassau, while five-day cruises will visit Grand Cayman, Grand Turk and destinations in the Bahamas and Jamaica.
Back to Norfolk and New York in May
Following its Port Everglades schedule, in May, Carnival Sunrise will return to Norfolk and New York for the summer to offer a wide variety of four- to 12-day cruises. These include five- and six-day cruises to the Bahamas from Norfolk as well as four-day cruises to Bermuda, and eight- to 12-day cruises to the Bahamas, Caribbean, Bermuda, Costa Rica and Panama Canal from New York.
