Pullmantur Cruises supports Envera charity for people with intellectual disabilities

Pullmantur Cruises and nonprofit organisation Envera will collaborate to promote social projects and employment for people with intellectual disabilities.

To raise money for the charity the Spanish cruise line will donate suitcases and objects left by passengers once the legal limit has passed.

These will be sold in three of Envera’s locations managed by people with disabilities across Madrid, Pozuelo de Alarcón and Valladolid. 11 jobs and about 30 associated roles have already been created by Envera to manage their stores.

The funds earned from the sales are used by Envera to finance various social projects promoted by the association and aimed at assisting people with intellectual disabilities and their social and workplace inclusion.

‘We are very pleased to begin collaborating on this project for two reasons,’ said, Richard J. Vogel, Pullmantur’s president & CEO. ‘Firstly, this initiative has come up from our employees, showing their commitment to the society and secondly, it seeks the inclusion of people with disabilities in the labour market, a fundamental aspect to reach their social inclusion’.

Vogel hopes to continue Pullmantur’s ongoing support, ‘we have just started to work with Envera, but it is our intention to promote other actions within our company’.

Envera's general manager, Pedro Sobrino, said: ‘Competitive social responsibility is a strategic element for 21st century companies that are working to embrace the global values of sustainability, inclusion, diversity, innovation and progress. And along these lines, Envera will always be an ally to achieve this’.

Charity Recycling Centre

Before arriving at the points of sale, the donated items from Pullmantur pass through the Charity Recycling Centre, an area of the Special Employment Centre that Envera runs in Colmenar Viejo Madrid.

Once received, they are considered for sale then if accepted distributed among the three Envera Inclusion Points or donated to other nonprofit organisations to help people at a disadvantage or at risk of exclusion.

Envera has been working to support people with intellectual disabilities for over 40 years, providing more than 2,500 people with assistance services and more than 600 with protected employment.

In the past Pullmantur has worked in collaboration on other support projects where the cruise line helped to train Learning for Life students onboard Monarch.
