Queen Mary 2 diverted course to resuce British yachtsman in mid-Atlantic
Cunard's Queen Mary 2 rescued a solo yachtsman in the mid-Atlantic on Saturday after his 38ft boat Tamarind was severely damaged during a raging storm with winds reaching 60 knots.

The 73-year-old British yachtsman, who was competing in a transatlantic race organised by Plymouth's Royal Western Yacht Club, issued a mayday as his yacht took on water.

Queen Mary 2 brought the yachtsman safely onboard after diverting its course in a rescue operation coordinated by the Canadian Coastguard.

The cruise ship is currently on an eight day westbound transatlantic crossing calling in Halifax, Nova Scotia Tuesday, and then onto New York.
