In the replica MSC cabin, trainee crew can experience working in the same environment as on board ship
The newest addition to V.Group’s crew training centre in Manila is a full replica cabin from an MSC Cruises vessel.

While the facility already had a training room for crew to practise making beds, cleaning and similar tasks it was not fully authentic in terms of fittings or the amount of space. The replica MSC cabin trainee crew will be able to experience working in the same environment as on board ship including all the fixtures and fittings in the cabin.

V.Ships has 4,000 Filipino crew in the cruise sector

Kathryn Aquirre, crewing manager for V.Ships, said that the company has 4,000 Filipino crew serving in the cruise industry and that its trainers had previously worked on cruise ships themselves.

She explained to journalists visiting the training centre that competition for hospitality staff in the cruise industry was very high at present. V.Ships is looking to employ young Filipions working in the hotel sector to work on board cruise ships.

With 113 newbuildings on order the industry will require at least 113,000 additional crew in the coming years, not including staff turnover.
