Cruise 118 research identified Far East, Middle East and Polar regions as up and coming destinations
The number of solo travellers taking cruises, across all age groups is on the increase, found independent research conducted by UK-based online travel agency Cruise 118.

According to the study, travellers in their 30s in particular are booking trips to more exotic locations, with the Middle East seeing a huge +293% increase year on year for this category of traveler.

Alan Williamson, marketing director, Cruise 118 said, ‘Travelling alone is becoming much more culturally and socially acceptable, and cruises are often a great way for young, solo travellers to switch off from work and explore the world safely and reliably, with the chance to meet new people.’

Far East, Middle East and Polar regions a draw

The research found that the Far East, Middle East and Polar regions have all been identified as up and coming destinations. With cruises to Sri Lanka, Oman, Alaska, Japan and expedition cruises to the Polar regions on the rise.

Trends identified from customer bookings for 2019 in comparison to 2018, have shown a 138% rise in the Far East, 127% increase for the Polar regions and 87% increase for routes throughout the Middle East.

Williamson, said, ‘These adventure cruise packages have been designed for people interested in exploring a variety of destinations and cultures.

‘Travelers are now looking for experience led holidays through local nature, adventure and exploration, which shore ex itineraries are increasingly able to offer.’
