A-Rosa & Concordia Damen contract
A-ROSA signs contract with Concordia Damen for river cruise ship
A-ROSA and Concordia Damen have signed a contract for a newbuild river cruise vessel for the northern Rhine region, due to be delivered spring 2021.

'With a length of 135mtr, a width of 17.7mtr and a fourth deck, it offers more space’ said Jörg Eichler, managing director of A-ROSA.

The build will house 140 cabins, including two-berth cabins (21sq mtr) with a balcony and separate living and sleeping areas. Itineraries will feature city calls to Cologne, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Antwerp and Bruges.

Family accommodation

The vessel will offer several family cabins with a large, adult swimming pool and smaller children’s pool on the sun deck. The restaurant design will also feature a separate children’s eating area. A wellness area will include sauna, whirlpool, ice grotto, heat bench and treatment rooms.

Generously sized staff cabins will include a rest and relaxation area.

Tailor-made river cruise vessel

Concordia Damen Managing Director Simon Provoost said, ‘Concordia Damen has invested time and energy into the river cruise market since the beginning of our joint venture and we are delighted that this has led to a contract with A-ROSA. Our work on innovations such as zero emissions battery propulsion, hull optimisation and air lubrication finds a natural resonance with such a forward-thinking client.’

SVP sales & marketing Damen Cruise, Andrea Trevisan said, ‘We are extremely happy to be welcoming A-ROSA with the first river cruise contract by the Damen Shipyards Group.’

New order marks breakthrough

Damen Group recently broke into the cruise market with an order for SeaDream Yacht Club’s first newbuild, a 15,600gt luxury mega-yacht set to service in September 2021.
